YOU London launched at Buckingham Palace

YOU London was launched on July 16th by Prince Charles. He and the Duchess of Cornwall visited a Scout water activity centre in Docklands in the morning and met young people from all of the partner groups. Two lads from 5th London were there as part of the YOU presentation team, along with young people from 2nd Witham BB. In the afternoon leaders and young people from all groups attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace with the Prince and the Duchess for the official launch. There were reports in most national newspapers of the event and it was shown on BBC national and BBC London news.

At Buckingham Palace each organisation showed the type of activities they undertake for young people. The BB was well represented with 150 Queensmen, 9th Waltham Forest Fencing team display, the West London Gym Team display, along with 5th Croydon Pipe Band and the London Massed Bugle Band. YOU London is now taking forward the Volunteering strategy and we are looking to do another major event in the autumn to publicise the need for new leaders. All the local Borough YOU groups have met and are planning their own activities in your local boroughs. If you are able to get involved, please do so, already in the last week of July and the first week of August we have had four parents contact us looking to place their youngsters in BB companies, and these enquiries have come directly from information they have received from YOU London.

My colleague Matt and I did our best to cover most guests that met TRH The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. We were lucky with the weather.
